North Star fulfilled the roles of Project Director and Client Project Manager, for this £11.5 million science centre at Seacombe Ferry Terminal.

Embedded within the client team, we led and managed the project from RIBA Stage 0, including successfully securing project funding and procuring and manging the design teams for both the refurbishment of two listed buildings and the interactive exhibition spaces. We also managed the co-creative development of content and exhibit design.

The design for the attraction began as a blank sheet of paper. The ideas were developed, by bringing together over 300 children and young people with a host of industry and academic partners through a year and a half of creative workshops. We then procured and managed the two Main Contractors for the base build and exhibition fit-out, seeing the project through to completion and its opening in November 2022.

The attraction aims to inspire STEAM learning through play and exploration, with interactive and multi-sensory immersive displays, across three main exhibition zones, covering where we live, our natural surroundings and our bodies. Eureka! Science + Discovery targets visitors up to the age 14, along with a separate interactive zone for the under 7's.

Displays include, a wrap-around immersive film installation, a 10.5 metres high climbing tree growing through the building, from the ground floor and extending up into the roof, sofas that colour mix lighting and not forgetting Luna the 3.7 metres tall cat. The exhibition areas are supported by a large maker space and a 90 seat theatre to deliver programming.
